It has been one year and three months since the legendary trader GCR announced his retirement from social media, and his trading stories have gradually faded from people’s discussion. However, last night, the revelation of anonymous KOL ilikeblocks ( @beniduboss) brought GCR back to the spotlight again, but this time the discussion around this name is no longer about the magical trading record, but some shady insider trading allegations.
Who is GCR? He is the most watched trader in the 2021 bull market . He publicly shorted DOGE at a high point in May 2021, and then publicly shorted SHIB and other metaverse tokens at the peak of the bull market in November 2021. He also publicly shorted LUNA before the collapse of LUNA in 2022 (and made a $10 million bet with LUNA founder Do Kwon). In addition to his brilliant trading record, GCR often publicly discloses his trading experience , and often comes up with golden sentences. Many of his experience summaries are still regarded as trading bibles by many people.
After the end of the last bull market, GCR gradually reduced the frequency of speaking on social media.
In April 2023, GCR posted on X that If you have long-term confidence in BTC and ETH, it would be better to just hold them without trading them, and then disappeared for a long time.
A year later , on April 14, 2024, GCR posted his last update on social media, encouraging everyone to hold on to their spot positions during the market crash at the time and not to give up. At the same time, GCR also mentioned that he was enjoying his retirement from social media.
Since then, apart from the brief theft of the X account, GCR has gradually faded from people’s sight… until the revelations last night.
On July 6, ilikeblocks first posted a notice on X, saying that a major announcement will be released tomorrow night local time, but the news did not attract much attention at that time.
On the evening of July 6, ilikeblocks officially began his revelations, directly pointing out that a certain account worshipped as a god by the community was suspected of bribing the exchanges coin listing team, hacking into the server to steal information, and using private channels to plagiarize their ideas... The full text is as follows.
Im sorry, I just cant stand it anymore.
If I cared about the interaction data, I could have written a long post exposing the following facts:
That account that you worship as a god, more than 90% of its income comes from illegal means:
Bribing the Binance listing team;
Hacking AWS servers to steal undisclosed information
Creating private Discord channels to steal other peoples ideas and even use them to fulfill their own prophecies
After suddenly disappearing, they violated the rules and published price predictions again, even though they had vowed not to do so again. Perhaps this was really a perfect opportunity, or perhaps it was because their nine-digit long positions were facing liquidation...
I know you idiots will just take it for granted, but next time, why not try to think for yourself? Just try something new.
To be fair, they are indeed smart and play their cards well.
But every time when we discuss the upright big guys who have never cut leeks, you always mention that account, which really makes me sick.
If we really talk about making money, they deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
After posting this, I will most likely regret deleting it.
Until then, have a great Sunday everyone.
Although ilikeblocks did not initially state who the account belonged to, from the multiple picture evidence he subsequently posted, it can be seen that the target of ilikeblocks attack was GCR.
As shown in the picture above, ilikeblocks posted several speeches suspected to be from GCR in the Discord channel (the authenticity is still in doubt). The account suspected to be GCR in the picture claimed that it had captured all the coin listing information of a certain large exchange without any omissions and even claimed that this is printing money.
As expected, ilikeblocks’ revelations soon caused an uproar in the community. Some people thought that his so-called evidence was not credible and was a groundless rumor, and that the most well-known short-selling cases of GCR obviously could not be achieved by relying solely on insider information of the listing; but some people also believed that “it is better to believe it than not to believe it”, otherwise why “I can’t do it, but he can”.
It is worth mentioning that ilikeblocks said that after the revelation, it was attacked by robots of unknown origin. Its account gained tens of thousands of followers in a short period of seconds, and a large number of new accounts posted spam comments that were obviously from robots under its posts (some even mainly in Chinese).
In addition, in response to further inquiries from many people, ilikeblocks said: “I can’t disclose everything, otherwise it will expose my source of information.”
Since ilikeblocks refused to further disclose the source of the information, and GCR, which had long since quit social media, did not respond, the truth of the matter remains unclear. Is ilikeblocks trying to gain traffic and attention? Or does he really have some unknown information? Before the situation develops further, no one except the parties involved may know the answer.
