As the year draws to a close, the fourth round of the AEZ quadratic funding program has come to a successful conclusion. In this round, several highly innovative projects have been added to the funding list. We are also very happy to see that the community participation in the MACI voting process has reached a new high, which also indicates that the Cosmos community voting results will have an important impact on the allocation of the funding pool.
Currently, the fifth round of funding has officially started. Let us continue to support public goods projects through the AEZ quadratic funding program in the new year and promote the vigorous development of the Cosmos ecosystem.
How to Fund Public Goods: Design and Iteration of the Governance Mechanism of AEZ Quadratic Grant
As a staunch supporter of Cosmos, DoraHacks focuses on the development of underlying tools, infrastructure, and funding mechanisms to achieve democratic and fair community governance in the Cosmos ecosystem. On this basis, DoraHacks launched the ATOM Economic Zone (AEZ) quadratic funding program to fund public goods and application chain projects in the Cosmos ecosystem - this also highlights DoraHacks support for long-term projects and its commitment to the healthy development of the Cosmos ecosystem. The AEZ funding program was initially funded by on-chain node revenue; later, with the passage of Cosmos Governance Proposal 917 , the Cosmos Hub and Atom Accelerator (AADAO) provided funds to support the continued operation of this program for 10 rounds, further expanding the public goods funding capacity of this program.
Quadratic Funding (QF) and Minimum Collusion-Resistant Infrastructure (MACI) are at the core of the AEZ community governance tools developed by DoraHacks, and also determine the allocation of funds in each round of the AEZ funding program. These mechanisms promote the fairness and privacy of voting, ensuring the direct participation of the community in key decision-making processes, while mitigating the influence of large stakeholders (whales) and ensuring the democratic allocation of resources. Each round of the AEZ funding program is divided into 2 pools of funds. The allocation of the first part is determined by the results of the QF, and anyone can participate in supporting any project; the second part of the funds is determined by the results of the MACI vote. MACI voting is free and open to all ATOM stakers. DoraHacks voting system directly covers the on-chain voting transaction fees.
A total of 340 donors participated in the AEZ quadratic funding round 4, and their choices directly determined the allocation of the 8,000 ATOM funding pool. Special congratulations to Ark Protocol, La Multisig, and jetWallet for taking first, second, and third place in the community vote, respectively! The full results and leaderboard can be viewed here.
Meanwhile, the results of this round of MACI voting determine the allocation of the 31,111 USDC prize pool. Thanks to all ATOM stakers and the entire Cosmos community for their enthusiastic participation, we received a total of 174 registrations. We would also like to congratulate all the funded teams - especially the new project jetWallet, which ranked first with 34.6% of the votes!
In addition, in the fourth round of funding, DoraHacks upgraded the overall infrastructure of the AEZ funding program, providing users with a more intuitive and user-friendly voting UI, stage timeline, funding data display, and project display UI. With the continued development of the funding program and the increase in community participation, the infrastructure of the AEZ funding program will continue to iterate and improve.
What is the AEZ Long-Term Quadratic Funding Grant?
With the passing of Cosmos Governance Proposal 917 , 80,000 ATOMs will be used to fund the AEZ Quadratic Grant, a long-term funding program for AEZ (Atom Economic Zone) ecosystem public goods and application chains initiated by DoraHacks. This funding is further supported by 200,000 USDC from AADAO and 100,000 USDC from Dora Factory. Together, the three funds constitute the 10-round funding pool (Round 2 - Round 11) of the AEZ Quadratic Grant.
The funding pool of AEZ Quadratic Grant focuses on supporting the early public goods and application chain construction of the ecosystem. The funding plan starts with the ecological infrastructure and works with developers to promote the steady development of the Cosmos ecosystem. All applicant projects need to submit a Round commitment to explain the intended use of this round of grants and the projects development plan for the next 2 months. After rigorous screening and review, the selected projects of the funding plan will be invited to join the project demo of the current round to show the project content and development plan to the community. The final allocation of the funding pool will be determined by the quadratic funding on the community chain and the results of the MACI quadratic voting.
